Garlic Rolls

These garlic rolls are good with soups or just instead of regular bread.

I remember in my childhood there was a nice lady living down a street whose girls were my and my sister’s friends. Back then, there was no problem to visit each other’s home without invitation. We, kids, would come anytime unexpectedly and were always warmly welcomed. While my mom could make delicious sweet rolls (I’m going to post the recipe soon), this lady made these delicious garlic rolls that could be eaten with any famous Ukrainian soup (more recipes are coming soon as well).

Dough ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp oil
  • 2 1/2 cup white flour (or 13 oz (360 g) if using a scale)

  • Egg for glazing

Garlic sauce ingredients:

  • 2 cloves
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp water
  • salt to taste

  1. Add yeast into warm milk, let it stay for a few minutes for fermentation.
  2. Add sugar, salt, oil, and flour, mix and knead well.  I use my Kitchen Aid mixer and I like that.
  3. Let dough raise for about one hour in warm room (if possible).
  4. Form small balls, put on a well greased baking sheet. Let it raise for a little bit.
  5. Glaze with beaten egg on the top.
  6. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes.
  7. When it’s ready, take the rolls out of oven, cover with clean towel for a few minutes.
  8. Meanwhile, prepare garlic sauce: grate or crush cloves, mix with oil, water, and salt in blender (I use Magic Bullet for this step).
  9. Brush each roll with garlic sauce using a pastry brush.
